The new operating system release is AVAIlable in Q1
consider an Upgrade now - here are the reasons why:
DESIGNA’s aim when developing the X20 version was to simplify the customer’s job and generate more value from the customer’s assets. The operating system is an important software component of the DESIGNA Parking Management Solution. The new DESIGNA x20 operating system secures the customer’s business through important security updates, and for all x19 systems and earlier versions, there is a collection of valuable business features available to upgrade your parking business.
After 10 years, support for Windows 7 came to an end on January 14, 2020. Meaning the server and system will still function, but Microsoft will no longer provide technical support for any issues, software updates and security updates or fixes. DESIGNA strongly recommends upgrading to the new x20 operating system and thus to the current version of Microsoft Windows, Server (v2016) and SQL (v2016). Without the update, DESIGNA cannot guarantee trouble-free operation and adequate protection against viruses and hacker attacks. Additionally, the x20 version will incorporate the software updates that ensure the system meets the new tax and legal compliance requirements.
In our aim to make the parking Business more convenient for our customers, we have developed a selection of smart features. In total, there are more remote features that allow, e.g., a firmware update without any on-site connection to the device. Furthermore, the LPR functionality is integrated in the new DESIGNA device family. x20 will also reduce the hassle for parkers who forgot their receipts. A copy of a receipt can now be simply printed at the exit lane - customer satisfaction at its best!
The x20 operating system will provide the following items that make the customer’s business more convenient:
- LPR integration for new DESIGNA devices for short term parkers, season parkers, plus fraud handling,
- Remote printing of receipts at the OUT device. Customers who forgot their receipts can now simply collect a copy of their receipt at the OUT device – they do not have to leave the car to search for an operating staff member.
- Centralized handling of logos and pictures on tickets/bar codes via the network. Avoidance of single upgrades of devices. Added convenience.
- Remote maintenance of multicons via the network. New firmware can now be easily updated from a central location. Added convenience.
- Gain in convenient handling of articles in the database. Operators can now delete articles automatically by type.
- Introducing a new “contract layer” between the master data of the user and the corresponding cards. The contract layer limits in general the time valid period to all cards assigned to the user. A more convenient way of handling the cards assigned to the user.
DESIGNA will deploy the new x20 operating system in the most convenient way possible for its customers. In general, we will put all our effort into avoiding any interruptions of their daily operations. Depending on the server setup, there are the following options to update:
- DESIGNA cloud-based PMS
The recommended way to keep your PMS at the most secure and latest technology level. For all customers running their PMS on a DESIGNA cloud, the update to the x20 operating system will be started in the 1st quarter of 2020. It will cover all systems that require the new operating System, e.g. the new IN/OUT devices. - Own server-based PMS
For those customers that have their own server running, DESIGNA will provide the new x20 operating system in a setup file. According to the customer’s preference, DESIGNA service experts will deploy the setup file via remote access or on-site. Installation and setup of the system will take a couple of hours. DESIGNA can also prepare an update package, which will be deployed during the night. The installation can be rolled out from the 1st quarter onwards.
