The DESIGNA PAY Cashless pay station impressed the jury of experts. In collaboration with our design agency PostlerFerguson in Hamburg, DESIGNA was awarded the iF DESIGN AWARD 2020, making it one of the prestigious winners of this internationally renowned design seal. PAY Cashless received the award in the category Public / Retail. The iF DESIGN AWARD is presented once a year by the world’s oldest independent design institution, iF International Forum Design GmbH based in Hanover.

The PAY Cashless pay station impressed the 78-strong, independent, international jury of experts with its innovative design and intuitive operation. There were a large number of contenders: The jurors had to the pick the award winners out of a total of 7,298 entries from 56 countries.

We are very proud to have been awarded this prestigious prize, as is the designer of PAY Cashless, Martin Postler. We caught up with him for an interview shortly after the winners were announced.

Mr Postler, how do you assess winning the IF Award?
DESIGNA can be incredibly proud of this award. On the surface, this is a product design award, but far more relevant are the processes, dynamics and innovations, both in terms of production and in DESIGNA’s working methods, which have led to winning this award. Close cooperation in the design process was and is the real achievement that is being celebrated here - and everyone involved can be extremely proud of this fact.

How did the idea of participating in the IF Award arise? Was there any notion when the PAY Cashless was being developed?
We’ve won a number of design awards over the last 10 years with our partners, including probably the most important one in the world of design, the ‘Design of the Year’ award from the Design Museum in London. When we started working with DESIGNA, we defined the clear goal of raising product design to the highest international level. Winning a design award is clear proof of our excellent cooperation

How long have you been working for DESIGNA and which projects have been completed?
We’ve been collaborating with DESIGNA since 2016. It all began with a strategic view of the entire product range, which led us directly to developing the design for the Cashless, Coinless and Cash&Card pay-on-foot machine series, which was complemented with the design of the barrier system. Furthermore, PostlerFerguson developed DESIGNA’s trade fair image in terms of its design and provided the company with tips and advice.

Cooperation with DESIGNA is set to continue in the future. Where do you go from here? Lots of new award-winning designs, also for DESIGNA?
Definitely! We hope that the other products in the range are also worthy of an award, especially the modular barrier system, which represents a completely new interpretation of the classic barrier.

We’d like nothing more than that. Thank you for the interview.
