Simply charge your car ar your workplace

A necessary and sensible concept with increasing registration figures

German Chancellor Angela Merkel recently announced a big number: 50k additional charging stations in Germany by 2022. That is quite an ambitious goal.

Good air quality is the basis for a balanced life. Not only our health and well-being are negatively affected by air pollutants but also various ecosystems. Electric mobility is playing an increasingly important role in the fight against traffic-related pollutant emissions, especially in cities and conurbations. A rethink is therefore certainly worthwhile, because electrically powered vehicles are not only cleaner than internal combustion engines but also quieter, more efficient and cheaper to operate. These advantages still face various challenges, such as the need for a mature charging infrastructure.

With the aim of reducing nitrogen oxide levels in local communities, the German Government has launched the "Clean Air 2017-2020" immediate action program, in which the Fraunhofer IAO is participating with the joint project "LamA - Charging at the Workplace".

As part of the joint project "LamA - Charging at the Workplace", a charging infrastructure for electric vehicles has been under construction at 37 Fraunhofer IAO Institutes throughout Germany since July 2018. 310 AC charging points (22 kW) and a further 28 DC charging points (150 kW) will have been set up by the end of the project. The 338 charging points will be available to employees, company car fleets, and third parties. In the course of the LamA 2.0 extension project, which has in the meantime been approved by the funding authority, a further 142 charging points (130 AC charging points and 12 DC charging points) will be installed between 2021 and 2022.

ladestationStuttgart, Freiburg, and Dresden are the lighthouse locations in the project. Seven Fraunhofer Institutes are planning to combine their research activities and make the results available to interested parties. In particular, Fraunhofer IAO is investigating new business models and their added value through the integration of fleet and charge management for company car fleets.

Many companies endeavor to meet their environmental responsibilities by taking appropriate measures. They are also looking for effective marketing tools to strengthen employee loyalty in the long term and to positively influence the company’s image.

The provision of an infrastructure for electric vehicles offers companies an outstanding opportunity to help shape the change towards sustainable mobility, on the one hand, and to use this measure as a marketing instrument, on the other.
